US Second Passport

Current regulations prohibit the possession of more than one valid, or potentially valid, passport at any one time unless under circumstances specifically authorized by the Secretary of State. The only justification considered for issuance of a second, valid passport is an urgent need for international travel while the bearer's full validity passport is unavailable due to visa processing at other embassies. Such passports are issued for an initial period of two years, but can be extended for additional two-year periods for up to ten years.

Note: You are required to present your valid ten- or five-year passport to apply for a second passport. If you are unable to do this because your passport is already being processed for a visa at another office, you may not apply for a second passport. If you need to travel before your passport will be returned to you, please contact this office.

Please submit the following :

• Your principal, full-validity passport. if you are unable to submit this passport for the four working days required for processing.

• Your second passport.

• Passport form UK-543, Statement in Support of Application for Second Passport.

• A written statement from your company explaining continued need for a second passport and

• Passport form DS-19.

Application Requirements

Please bring the following to your appointment:

• Your valid full ten- or five-year passport: This will be returned to you at your appointment;

• Passport form UK-523, Statement in Support of Application for Second Passport;

• A written request from your company explaining need for second passport;

• Passport application form DS-82 : Please ignore pages one and two of the application form as they do not apply when applying for your passport in the United Kingdom. Follow the instructions on this page. Follow the instructions on this page. For tips on completing the DS-82, follow this link;

• Two identical passport photographs: The Embassy will reject any photographs that do not meet the specified requirements; please follow this link for complete instructions. Vending machine photographs and photographs printed on a home computer are unacceptable;

• Your appointment confirmation sheet.

• A self-addressed, prepaid Royal Mail Special Delivery envelope (available at any UK Post Office) in which to have your documents returned to you once processing is completed. Inquiries regarding Special Delivery Mail should be directed to your local Post Office. As the Embassy does not keep track of Special Delivery numbers, you are advised to keep a record of your Special Delivery tracking number so you can track your passport's return to you.
