Passport Renewal if over 15 Years since your Previous Issuance
You are required to appear in person at this office in order to obtain a new passport. No appointment is necessary. The ACS Unit is open to accept applications from 7:30 am to 9:30 am, Monday through Friday. The ACS Unit is closed to the public on all American and Dominican Holidays.
Please note that applications for full validity U.S. Passports (10 years for adults and 5 years for children under age 16) will be sent by the Consulate to the United States for printing with a secure, photo-digitized image of the bearer. The application will be processed and the passport mailed back to this office within 10 workdays. We cannot respond to inquiries about the status of the passport before 10 business days have passed.
If travel is urgent, the Consulate could issue an emergency 12-month limited validity passport, which cannot be extended. When the emergency travel has been completed you will have two options in applying for a full validity passport. You can either submit your application at the Consulate where the full validity passport will be processed and then handed to you, or you can apply for said passport while in the United States. There will be no additional cost as long as the emergency passport is still valid and is presented for cancellation. If the emergency passport expires or is lost, passport application fees must be paid again.
You are required to present the following documentation:
- Proof of U.S. citizenship: You must either provide your most recently issued passport, an original U.S. birth certificate, a Consular Report of Birth Abroad, or a naturalization certificate. You must also have photo identification. A driver's license, social security card, or a voter registration card does not constitute proof of citizenship.
- Your marriage certificate if you have married since your last passport was issued;
- Passport application form DSP-11: The form should be completed, but not signed prior to your visit.
- Passport Photographs:
Please bring three photographs which are:
- Identical
- Taken within the last 6 months and a good likeness
- Size: 2" by 2" (5 cm x 5 cm)
- Color photos (front view, full face and plain white or off-white background).
Applicants should be aware that the Consulate will reject any photographs that do not conform to U.S. Passport standards,(i.e., photo too small, head size too small, not identical, out of focus, dark background). Note: Vending machine photographs, instantaneous photographs and photographs printed on a home computer are not of acceptable quality and therefore are unacceptable.
